(8/3/2022) When I travelled to Thermopolis, Wyoming this summer, I was really hoping to get to see the Legend Rock Petroglyph Site, because I'd been dreaming a lot about petroglyphs in the weeks leading up to the trip. A petroglyph is a rock carving, usually from prehistoric times. Here's a picture of one of the Legend Rock petroglyphs, some of which date back to 10,000 years ago:

Of course, the petroglyphs that I had been dreaming of were not of thunderbirds, elk, and giant-eared rabbits, but rather strange three-legged shell creatures and geometric shapes:

And it was these petroglyphs that inspired the song mangoj (We are restless). The lyrics of the song are a list of qualities and actions proudly shared by the people in question. maQup, maqan (We are young, we are old) malob, mara' (We lead, we command), maloS, mavang (We wait, we take action) majQa' (Excellent!). Of course tlhev, the author of the song, is only guessing about what the ancient race that carved the petroglyphs may have been trying to say, just like we cannot truly understand the intentions of the ancient humans who carved the many terran petroglyphs still surviving to this day. All we can say is that change is inevitable, and every species is restless and changing in the grand span of geologic time.
