'ay' jav - Qoylu'taH (The Clock is Ticking)

(11/30/2021) When you're tracking someone or something through an alien wilderness and your tricorder stops working, bIjegh'a' (do you give up)? Of course not! tlhIngan SoH! 

Are you familiar with the expression Qoylu'taH? In Klingon, the way to say "What time is it" is 'arlogh Qoylu'pu' (How many times has it been heard?) where the "it" referred to is some kind of bell or drum that used to be used to keep track of time. You answer by saying how many times it has been heard-- that is, what hour it is. If it is 10am, you say wa'maH logh Qoylu'pu' (It has been heard 10 times). Qoylu'taH (One is hearing it / It is being heard) is an idiomatic expression similar to "The clock is ticking" in English.

This little grammar lesson is really just me stalling because I don't have any ghost updates to give you. Do'Ha' DachtaH ghaH (Unfortunately she is still absent). But maybe instead of that, I can explain a little about my Suchtuv QonoS (dream journal) pictured here: 

I originally got this journal in 2019, and the idea was to write down my dreams every morning in Klingon as a way to practice writing. I didn't have much success with it at first, because memories of dreams fade quickly and it's hard to write in Klingon so early in the morning. But then, in late 2020, when I started having very real and grounded dreams that not only didn't fade, but, shall we say, *haunted* me throughout the day... well, I decided it was time to break it out again. And I'm glad I did, because it's a convenient record for me to share with you.
